Kanebo Kate Powderless Liquid for Cover Foundation review

image

I have a few people asking about HG foundations so I decided to share mine. 🙂 I have actually been using this for a few months already, and loving it. With my student’s budget, this foundation is simply perfect.

Description (from the official site);

The liquid smoothly covers the skin and then turns into powder. A highly-functional liquid foundation with a light texture that does not require a finish powder or produce unwanted shine.
SPF20 PA++

  • Contains a moisturizing ingredient to prevent skin dryness and a serum ingredient (water-soluble collagen)
  • Completed non-comedogenic testing (a formula that is not likely to cause pimples)

image

The Kanebo Kate Powderless Liquid for Cover Foundation comes in 30ml bottles (purchase details at the end of this post 😛 ) and 6 different shades;

image

This chart is quite accurate to skin matching. I chose OC-C which is the middle shade, which I find safe if you are unsure. 😀 It kinda matches anyone between NW15-20. This foundation is slightly warm-toned but it is a good match for my neutral skin.

image

You can find it’s ingredients here on CosDNA. I have absolutely no sensitive reactions from it! 🙂

The general idea is a blendable, smooth foundation which only mattifies the skin after application. I think that’s genius! I hate it when my powder foundations cake before I even finish blending 😦

image

The bottle also comes with a pump which helps control the amount coming out of the nozzle. Never had a problem of over-pouring (I’m looking at you, Revlon).

image

So on to the swatch! I drew a ‘K’ (for Kate) to demonstrate it’s cover abilities.

image

(used the Kiss Me liquid eyeliner in case you are curious)

Only a tiny amount is needed to cover the back of my hand.

image

It blends out smoothly with just my finger. I do prefer to use a triangular sponge but sometimes I feel that that is too much product wastage 😦 Can someone come up with a minimal wastage sponge already?

image

On swatch it does look a little too warm for my skin but watch as it transforms~

image

Tadaa~ You can see that my skin seems more matte and evenly toned after application. I’m not even exaggerating, the ‘K’ is less visible now (and this works for pigmentation or mild blemishes on the face as well). Okay, it might not exactly cover red, angry pimples but I’m extremely pleased with this amount of coverage!

image

If you prime your undereye area well, the foundation can double as a concealer as well. I personally do not have dark undereyes, but I can vouch for this because I made my friend try it. 😛

Pros:
-Easy to blend
– 6 different shades
– Mattifes the skin (oil control up to 6-8 hours!)
– Covers pretty well
– Doesn’t cost an arm and a leg
– Easy to pump
– One bottle lasts more than half a year!

Cons:
– Opaque bottle with no indication when it will finish :/
– Difficult to get! (I got my friend to buy this for me in Japan)

Verdict: I am already browsing sites to repurchase! ❤

image

Yes, I got mine directly from Asia but Adambeauty.com, Ebay and Amazon sells them. It is approximately $18-20 plus shipping for 30ml and I think it is really reasonable for what it does. This remains as my HG foundation even after trying Rimmel, Revlon, Maybelline, MAC, yadah yadah… Obviously I’m too poor for Bobbi Brown, Makeupforever and other fancies, but I think this will stay my fav for a long time.

Have you tried any Japanese foundation and love them?

This product was purchase with my own moneys~

Top 3 Beauty Trends you have to watch out for in 2015

Since I am writing an Asian beauty blog, I will keep it on Asian beauty trends– more specifically South Korean. I believe this is relevant for any part of the world because the Western and Asian companies adapt to each other’s trends anyways.

The South Korean beauty scene has brought about many new trends in the past couple of years. Beginning with the viral bb cushion advertisements to Kpop beauty scene with various celebrity endorsements, I just can’t keep up with them all. As demands rose for newer and more innovative products, companies scramble to create greater buzz.

My personal favourite trends from Korea had been their affordable and yet amazing bb creams (yes, these came out at the end of my high school days) and cute food-like packaging products. Lo behold my small personal collection;

And nowadays they even have Banana ones. I need ❤ _ ❤ .

image

Honestly though, my skin has never been better after using these Asian products. I braved through bee venom treatments, placenta essence, donkey milk creams and horse oil for goodness sake– I should be looking like a goddess by now. :X 939719631 products later, I realize the trick is to find what suits your skin best and do the perfect amount of layering (more does not always mean better, genius). Of course, drinking plenty of water and keeping skin hygiene is necessary as well.

Lets cut to the chase now and look at some of the best 2015 trends to come!

Beauty Trend #1
Collaborations

This is one trend that is spreading like wildfire. Besides getting famous figures to endorse their brands, companies are also starting to get them to come up with new lines!

People might be buying the Saem Eco line for G-dragon and Innisfree for Minho’s pouch. I mean, I bought the Innisfree’s lip tint mousse because of Pony. 😛 Be it simply a beauty kit, an eye shadow palette or even a signature fragrance, collaborations seem to be quite a hit these days. Remember the Laneige x pushBUTTON collab? 😀

image

They say behind every man there is a woman, and I say behind every famous figure there are millions of fans. There is a line already waiting behind them so why not launch a collab product and get your brand name out there like *snap fingers*?

Chosungah x Lucky Chouette collab also launched in the last quarter of 2014. Owls! Adorbs.

I do enjoy collabs alot. They are often prettier in design and worth keeping. Hello….? Limited edition!~ 😉

Even resellers/companies are doing more collabs these days. Beauteque, for example, did several collabs with bloggers/vloggers over the past few months for their grab bags. 😀

Beauty Trend #2
New Key Ingredients

We are not talking about milk, caviar or gold here. Like I mentioned before, I braved through bee venom treatments, placenta essence, donkey milk creams and horse oil in the previous years. I believe no stone is left unturned and no bush unpoked in Korea in order for them to come up with new key ingredients. I commend them for their adventurous side!

It is no secret that very company has to have their own signature line to be successful. When you think about Innisfree, you think Jeju volcano and green tea. Mizon? Snails. Skin food? Pomegranate. You get the drift. 2015 will bring us more exciting ingredients for sure. We have already seen some like the new Orchid line from Innisfree and more syn-ake anti-aging products from various brands like Medi-heal and Sea Tree.

image

I am not a biochemist or skin scientist, so I cannot predict exact ingredients. But I can say this: we might see bizarre ones like animal protein derivates, sea creature (eg conch) slime or even Western plants, who knows?

Fancy some Kalanchoe thyrsiflora cream?

Beauty Trend #3
Inner Beauty

Top beauty queens are emphasizing a lot more on this lately. Yoga/ pilates, beauty diets and other de-stressing methods are getting quite the buzz. I was catching on with my favorite beauty show Get It Beauty, and saw that they had introduced many tips to calm the inner soul. I do agree that when you eat right, sleep right and feel right, it will show.

This third beauty trend is not a noun specifically, so I decided to pick several items that would fit into the trend. These products include aromatherapeutic oils, fabric perfumes, scented diffusers and candles! If you have been shopping on Korean sites recently, you would notice that more new arrivals include the products I have mentioned.

image

Innisfree has some wonderful candles for Christmas (and oil sets for their aniversary).

image image

It’s Skin and The Face Shop are selling various diffusers.

image

Remember me introducing the Papier d’Armanie awhile ago? I got that tip from the show. It did calm me down and deodorize the air in my room, making it perfect for my sleep hygiene! I do think this is a great trend for all beauty enthusiasts to jump on.

image

Side note: With ex beauty queen Honey Lee taking the reigns of the Korean Beauty Show, Get it Beauty, we expect amazing things and great tips for the coming year! 🙂

For those who felt that its a “tldr”, here is the recap;
Beauty Trend #1 Collaborations-– with models, celebs, designers and idols.
Beauty Trend #2 New Key Ingredients- Innisfree’s orchid line, more synake products and perhaps *cough* conch slime?!
Beauty Trend #3 Inner Beauty– we are talking aromatherapeutic oils, fabric perfumes, scented diffusers and candles by beauty companies! ❤

But where to buy Korean beauty products?

Well of course there is the trusty Amazon and Ebay, but if you would like a special treat and feeling like it is Christmas all year round, you can always grab one of those fabulous Beauteque BB bags or subscribe to Beauteque monthly! Their subs are always filled with 7 full sized products. Do read my reviews on this bag to get an idea of what they curate. 😉

Which beauty trend are you most excited about? 🙂

Memebox My Cute Wishlist – unboxing & review

image

Okay, I have to admit I am not a super cutesy person, but no girl can resist a cute memebox like this one! I was priveleged to receive a My Cute Wishlist from Memebox and even before unboxing, I knew it would be good (because I saw the spoilers 😛 ).

image

When you lift the lid of this Memebox, it is like unicorns and fairies has just escaped. You will stare at it for awhile to take it all in. I am not kidding, this one is a winner.

imageimage

Let me share my honest opinion about this box. The one item I was most excited to try out is this: The Beauty People Snow White Special Edition Season 2 (1.6g x 5ea, $54). It consists of 5 pretty, ready-to-wear colors, ranging from Glimmer Black to Beige.

image

If you are a k-drama fan, you would probably notice that Snow White is dressed in Hyun Bin’s painstakingly sewn sequined jacket. Adorbs!

image

You might already know I don’t use my makeup alot, but these colors might shake my routine up from now on! You can easily create a light cat eye and add on a cute aegyop sal (waterline underneath the eyes) with these pencils.

image

Back of the tin

I like that it comes with a pink sharpener too. This product definitely makes up for the whole box 🙂

My next fav is the a;t Fox triplets: Gyoolpy Tea, Jasoyup Herb Tea and Black Tea (10ml, $6 each). They come in such cute cupcakes!

image

Each has a different niche; whitening, lifting or moisturizing.
Of all the relatively unknown brands Memebox has introduced to us global customers, a;t Fox is one I most wanted to try.

The concept is “afternoon tea” where beauty people gather and enjoy their cuppa while browsing through the cute things instore.

image

The cream is light and only slightly scented, so those who are sensitive might enjoy this. It also makes a wonderful stocking filler for Christmas! But I am keeping these for myself~ *smug*
We are all familiar with Etude House. And I was glad to see this brand in a memebox! It is quite rare to see famous products in these boxes as memebox is a global platform for more indie/new brands to branch out.

image

The Etude Missing U Hand Cream (30ml, $5) comes in Pink Dolphin, Half Seal, Fairy Penguin and Panda…and viola I got the Fairy Penguin!

image

The packaging is awesome. I can bring it in my bag to lectures and score some envious looks~ Function-wise, it does it job. Nothing super fantastic but better than having dry hands! It smells of baby powder.

image

Another Etude House item, the Sweet Recipe Cancy Stick (2g, $5) was included. This is a gloss type lip tint that moisturizes and is used to create a gradated look.

I got the 03 Sour Lemon Candy, which is the lightest among the tints… so it doesn’t show that much. I guess it is a good addition to my vibrant collection of tints.

I have also tested out the Pure Smile Muddy Girl (15g, $1) in Charcoal and found it….surprising! The consistency is slightly more watery than any charcoal/mud/volcanic packs I have tried, but dries up within a few minutes and reveals all your pores!! I am not kidding, it looks like a freak show in the mirror lol~ For the fun factor; plus one point. I think it is worth trying this out. The Muddy Girl does not have a distinct scent at all and is easy to wash off under warm water.

image

We have our fair share of Kocostar lately, but I have not received a Split End Therapy (8ml, $6) yet so this is the first. The nail therapy was nice, but not super convenient as I am a person who works alot with my hands lol. Well, if this product does not work, placebo will do it’s job. Not bad considering it comes with a cute band!

image

Another one which I have personally tested is this Pure Smile Neco Punch Point Pads (17ml x 2ea). It comes in Hibiscus and Lemongrass.  A point pad, is by definition a mini mask patch suitable for any part of your face/body that needs hydration.

I patched this on my cheek and left it there for 10 mins. It does feel more hydrated and my skin cools, but I am not used to just having a mask on just a small area. I think this would be great for dry areas like the elbows, knees, ankles etcetera. It does make you look cute though, having one on each cheek :B

image

All in all, I adore the My Cute Wishlist memebox. It is well worth $23 (add $6.99 for shipping) and I have purchased it’s sequel box. I know it all adds up to less than $100, unlike most memeboxes but the satisfaction of getting it makes it one of a memefavorites.

You may find all the memebox with it’s shipping date on this memebox-dedicated page and more bonuses + other information. I will update with September coupon codes once I get them.

At the meantime, happy memeshopping!
