Laneige BB Cushion (Pore Control) SPF50 PA+++ [No.21 Natural Beige] Review

image

So I finally decided to buy the Laneige BB Cushion (Pore Control) SPF50 PA+++ in No.21 Natural Beige after looking at swatches. I have been using my IOPE and Innisfree cushions for the past few months and I got addicted to the convenience of it. Forget about germs and the budget, these cushions are life-saving. 😀

Since summer is nearing in Europe, I had to switch up my makeup to help control shine (I have normal to oily skin). I was loving the IOPE cover cushion (a tad better for oil control than it’s natural version) so I thought this one might be similar if not better as they are both from the same parent company, Amore Pacific.

image

I saw this on sale on Amore Pacific’s ebay for approx $32 (free shipping). Well, I thought that’s great since I need not worry about authenticity and these companies usually add a ton of samples. How wrong was I. There was zero samples and the way the parcel was labelled got it caught at the customs for 2 weeks with a $21 tax slapped on top of that. I was utterly disappointed. Thanks, whoever you are, G. G. Lee. 😦 😥

Nevermind the extra charges, there was no way I could turn the order back and get a refund since I really wanted to try this. I had to bit the bullet and pretend that the charges were for shipping. My advice is to buy them from companies that do give samples and mark the parcels properly– RRS, TTK,…

This box contains a cushion in its case, a refill and an instruction sheet. I love how pretty and lux the case feels. I do regret a tad, not going for the limited editions but I guess I will buy those later if I do enjoy using this one. 🙂

image

It is almost palm-size and about 50g (?) so your handbag won’t feel like it is filled with bricks.

image

At least this one was manufactured in April 2015, correct me if I am wrong..

image

The standard stuff you see on their site. It is said to be semi-matte, long wearing and offers pore control with UV protection. I quite dig the cooling sensation on a warm, sunny day. I remember reading that by lowering the skin temperature by 1 degree, we actually cut down sebum by 10%. 🙂

Sealed for freshness

image

Up close 🙂

It seems all moist and properly soaked.

image

Look at how much I could pick up with one press!! ❤ Compared the Innisfree’s ampoule intense cushion, this one feels like it has much more product and picks up easily.

image

I’m okay with how the air sponge feels. Nothing to shout about.

image

Look at how much was picked up! I didn’t have to apply much pressure. Lovin ❤

Okay, I just had to compare my top 3 cushions currently;
Laneige Pore Control cushion in No.21
Iope Air cushion Cover C23
Innisfree Ampoule Intense cushion No.21

image

Although they are from the same parent company, it is amazing to see how different their formulation/ shades are! Innisfree is the lightest of the bunch (comparing both No.21 of Innisfree and Laneige), and I think their No.13 is perfect for the pale European ladies~ Laneige seems to be on the pinkier side at swatch compared to Iope which suits warmer skin better.

Formulation wise, Iope is the creamiest of the lot and blends beautifully. Innisfree seems a little runnier but is great for those who wants natural looking makeup without much coverage (I think their long-wearing one would be closer to Laneige). The Laneige pore control is very much like a foundation and reminds me of the Western makeup bases. It can be cakey if you have dry skin —read on.

image

All three blend out well on my skin, although I prefer Iope a little more than Laneige at this stage of the game. It looks really natural.

image

You can see how the Laneige one is pretty powdery and covers well (on a non-moisturized/ non-primed hand). I like the Laneige one when I wake up with plump skin and when it is a hot day out. I would say that it covers the best among the lot, but you will definitely look like you have some makeup on. My favourite MOTD is to moisturize with my SNT Goddess cream and then prime with some Miguhara BP cream.

image

Pros
Nice packaging
Cooling, pore control
Great coverage
Matte finish
Scent of lux (something like a super mild Estee Lauder perfume?)

Cons
Tad powdery, not as natural as Iope
Expensive for 15g of product (perhaps for my budget)
Not every country has Laneige counters so you might have to shop online

I have to try this in mid-summer to tell you how well it works. At the moment my skin still seem dormant in the oil-production department, which I am grateful for. First impressions are good, although I still cannot detach from my first love– the Iope air cushion. The Laneige cushion is indeed perfect for problematic skin and covers imperfection like magic. I would love to give the other versions a try! Definitely picking up the Anti-aging version for mum for her birthday. ❤

Edit: I just came back from a 2-hour Sunday jog with my dog. It was quite sunny out but I came back and there was almost zero shine on my face! I am so amazed, I guess the oil control is really the best~

The Lovely Boutique Memebox

Maybe you realized I left out the ‘My’ in the box name. This ain’t My Lovely Boutique for sure… I bought this Memebox with the impression that it will be filled with elegant, luxurious little trinkets, glittering vials and rare unique charms. Nope, not quite it. It is all lovely for sure, but just not my kind of boutique I had in mind.

image

It is befitting the theme and description, yes. But do I need these? Let’s take a look.

Fuzzy, grey cards. Sorry. European winters made it this way… 😦

image

image

There are 6 items in total. At the first glance, it isn’t bad at all. Lots of little things that people might appreciate. I would actually gift some for Christmas!

My favorite of the lot is probably the quad packs from The Yeon’s Jeju Hallabong Energy range costing a little under $6. Not sure how these qualify as ‘dreamy’ or ‘magical’ but I love useful things. And packs are my best bets.

image

They came in fours: 1 peeling gel, 2 live packs and a pore ghassoul pack. I assume the Live packs give ‘live’ to the skin by replenishing nutrients and cooling the skin. I can’t wait to try the Ghassoul pack especially, because I love to rid the excess sebum and dirt with some Jeju wonder ingredients.

image

Apparently I have 2 more years before these go bad. But I’m using these up in a week hah!

My next favourite is this Etude House My Castle Hand cream (30ml, $7). This one definitely qualify as cute, lovely and all the similar adjectives. From the 4 selections. I got the Sweet Cookie by random. This smells like vanilla, butter and cacao.

image

I like that Memebox curated a rather new product to add because we did see some discontinued products in the past.

image

I love this hand cream. It’s swoon-worthy for sure. I only wished they added at least two per box instead of just one. Now I’m curious how the other ones smell like! Check em out here~

I was bummed that the Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Cinema City is only a deluxe sample of 10ml. I really wanted to try the full-sized one with the blusher tip for the longest time but hadn’t bought one because of the many CC/BBs I own. (I am penny-pinching…)

image

I love the art and packaging mainly because I’m tired of seeing imitations with Korean products. Kinda wish people can be more original. TCFS’s concepts are solid and I don’t even know if their products are good yet, but I’m already sold by the first impression. Korean cosmetics companies, take note.

image

This will end up in my travel pouch probably. I can at least show off my ‘Korean dinosaur product’ in the train or flight you know..

I don’t know what to say about the next item. It just fits the theme so well! Sadly with the huge influx of Shara Shara recently, the brand name seems kinda tarnished. It is the opposite reaction that the company wants I guess. I bet they supplied tons of things, waiting in anticipation for the buzz, but so far nope…

The Only You Necklace Lip Balm No 1 Juicy Peach retails for an astonishing $34.

image

It intrigued netizens all over the world but the huge flaw is, I won’t wear lip balm around my neck. Not when it is made of cheap laminated gold foil. The foil was so badly glued to the body of the necklace I could see and feel bubbles on it (possibly damaged from the flight from Incheon?).

image

I can’t fault Memebox for putting this into the box. It is after all befitting the theme. I just…don’t know if anyone I know would like this…

And you think Memebox stopped there.

Another Shara Shara product; the Acerola Moist Oil Balm (30ml, $17) is neither cute nor boutique-sque to say the least.

image

Well, at least this one smells good, and is useful. And doesn’t look tacky. I quite like the simple, red tin and design actually.

image

It smells mildly of cherries and I can use this on my ankles, knees and elbows. Pretty pleased as this is like vaseline, but better.

Well……This box might be renamed Shara Shara box if not for the earlier 3 products! Yes, the Shara Shara Natural Shining BB SPF36 PA++ makes me whimper a little. I don’t hate this brand. But I’m just seeing it too much and not getting any HG from it yet.

image

This one has micro pearl powders, diamond powders and amethyst in it. Sounds all glimmery but dayumm I can’t wear this to lectures! :O

image

Not my style. I’ll gift this too.

This box wasn’t a wow for me. I was expecting more exciting things after seeing the Korean one;

I was half expecting perfumes, candles and such. That box oozes French elegance and pure lux in little packages.

Or maybe this, which I curated this from Korean beauty products, which is more lovely and cute than a mature ’boutique’ theme.

boutique

I made a mistake. Memebox had a different definition. I’ll move on.

Memebox Global #10 Unboxing

So I got my memebox global #10 today! It was sent randomly via EMS although I did not pay for express. Thank you, memebox~

The Memebox 10 includes 3 full-sized product, a deluxe sample and a face mask. I think I would use all of them except the eye serum (which I will hand over to my mum when I go home in summer lol).

At first glance, I knew I would like this box (until proven otherwise).

I heard good things about Hanskin, so I am ecstatic to finally get an ampoule from them. It is the Hanskin Bio original Royal Ampoule BB SPF 30++ 5ml, valued at $9. Really?? Never have I seen a bb cream in ampoule form. And it has royal jelly extracts in it. Sounds interesting.

Miss en scene curling essence was the main occupier of the box (150ml). I don’t really have curly hair…but I guess I would use it if it smells good and volumizes well. This product costs $14.

The other item that took up most space was the Drww Multi-Action Smart Cream Gel at 70ml ($59???!!) which promises soothing and norishing effect for damaged skin. I reckon I could use this for after sun exposure or on active blemishes. Another suggested way was as a sleeping pack since it has all moisturizing, whitening and anti-aging properties. Score!

The Atopalm eye serum (15ml)—-surprising amount for it’s size…was priced also at a steep $49 (oh memebox…). Since I had the Dr.Jar+ eye serum, I think I would not use this myself as I have mentioned earlier.

Dewytree ginseng mask ($4) was on sale on memebox awhile ago. I would use this soon and do a quick review on it.

Everyone was excited for Mool Pool Deep Cleansing ($19)—75ml because of how cool it looks, but as you can see above, it is a clear gel-type cleanser. It works as a makeup-remover, cleanser and light exfoliator..so it says. I might use this alternately to the Caviar Oil Cleanser I got from the previous memebox.

This memebox totaled up to an astonishing memeprice of $154, but as a fellow forumer said, even if we slashed that half to $77, it is still way above the value we paid for.

I bought this as a bundle (8,9,10) at about $70+ in total. The latest release was box 14 (ikr?) and the bundle (14-16). Check it out here.
