Memebox Oriental Medicine- a quick review

I am privileged enough to get the Memebox Oriental Medicine! It was sold out and was one of the boxes from the three (Whole Grain, Oriental Medicine and Milk)-themed series which became a hit as they were sort of like a breakaway from what memebox normally did at that time.

[note: Mind you, Memebox is such an innovative company, this was just about a month ago. Now they have like a gazillion newly-themed boxes so check them out here!]

I know this review is a tad late, but I got to try some of the products rather than just blindly posting about an unboxing without swatching, smelling, observing or tasting it…

image

This box came in an express package tru DHL and I swear they are like the best folks because they reposted my box a couple of times while I was out. Okay, on to the box!

Info card as usual;

I just love Oriental stuff firstly because I have stayed in Asia when I was younger, and also because I can’t get these babies here. You know it is more precious when it is rare.

image

The products in their respective packagings are huge! I was wondering if they are all full-sized— and they are!! except for the Donginbi deluxe samples.

image

Unpacked.

image

Aren’t they just gorgeous? I can’t read half of these, but thanks to the info card I can at least figure out some.

image

First item (or two) are the Purederm Korean Herb Masks (19ml each at $2) and I got the;
1. “Soo-an” Moisturizing Korean Herb Mask for dry skin
2. “Jung-an” Refining Korean Herb Mask for oily & combi skin

I guess I can always use this with another friend who has a different problem…and so I did!
They did feel a little soapy for my liking, but they smelled mild and lovely. I didn’t see much difference (probably not after one use anyways) and neither did my friend. Otherwise, masks are always fun for pajama parties.

image

I love serums, and you have to agree with me that this one is an exciting addition to the box. Wonder+ Serum?? Two of my favourite words in beauty.

The D’Ran Wonder Serum is 30ml and costs $30 according to Memebox. It is packed with Asian miracles such as ginseng, black hoof and a bunch of other Latin herb names I can’t recognize. But hey, proof is in the result, no? I tried this alternately with my Cantella Ampoule (O&T box) and I can tell my skin is loving me atm. Not sure if it is just that skin-friendly time of the month.

image

Verdict: I love this. It smells oriental alright and there is a protective cap that comes with it. Extra points! I probably need more tries to proof it’s efficacy.

image

These twins are the only ones I have not thoroughly tried. They remind me of the mini Botanic Hill essence and oil we received back then from memebox!–but it’s Asian cousin.

The Donginbi- Donginbidam Red Ginseng Aqua Oil & Aqua Pack Essence are both 5ml samples prices approximately at $9 and $18 respectively. It is said that this brand is a super premium brand found only in Korean beauty department stores to quote memebox exactly.

They smell great (as with all the rest). I think it is an acquired scent, sort of like if you can tolerate licorice if you loved it since your tender days. I know I can.

image

Next is a favourite among memeaddicts: the Shib Jang Ceng – Chun Ji Heang hand cream which contains 80ml of products and is $17. Placebo or not, I think I need to finish it to decide. They claim to have added the 110-year-old wild ginseng extract in (holy!).

image

Texture-wise, it is not as annoying as some shea butter hand creams I have tried. It smells of chinese drug stores which transports me back in time (yep, I keep repeating this but I LOVE!).

image

The Hanhui CC cream (50ml, $30) reminds me alot about the Nabi CC cream from Holika Holika. Same texture and color, and they both adapt to your skin after awhile, but leaves a slight powdery cast. I am still not sold on CC creams, because so far I have been using them like primers.

Since this one has ginseng, cactus extracts and galactomyces fermented extracts, I guess it is worth a long-term trial to see whether or not it will brighten my complexion and make imperfections perfect as it claims. 3 uses ain’t enough imho.

The Memebox Oriental Medicine total up to $81 excluding the two deluxe samples ($27). I think it is worth a try as we don’t often come across these in our standard Western beauty products store.. or even online stores!

Memebox offers codes on their site for multiple purchases and they also have value sets.

Memebox Scentbox #1 Rose

Time to review one of my favourite boxes from Memebox! It is the Scentbox #1 Rose. The Scentbox series came in 3– the rose, baby powder and grapefruit. I adore them (almost) equally.

Lets look at what was included and how they performed;

You have to agree that is box is pretty as a picture!

Info-cards as usual;

20140630_092048564_iOS

20140630_092055453_iOS

It contains 4 products.

The spoiler product on Memebox’s FB page was the Evas Rosemine Floral Remedy Foam Cleanser.
Having already received 4927401741 cleansers from Memebox (just an exaggeration), I dreaded the idea of another, but now I can have a ton to try out… which is fun because every girl needs to cleanse at least twice a day!

image

I already got the oil cleanser, a cleansing water, A/C spot cleanser, wholegrain 3-in-one cleanser, yadda yadda…therefore a foam cleanser is a nice change I guess.

image

This cleanser is 120ml and contributed to the weight of the box significantly. It retails for $22 (memebox pricing).

The second item is also by Evas. It is a Plumpy Tint in 01 Roseberry. It contains 13g of products and costs $11. I love lip  moisturizing products in general and always need them for winter anyways, so this is great to have.

image

It said to contain french rose water and….ginseng extracts? Whoa.

This is not a wrist slit.

image

The tint is not as strong as some lip tints I have tried. I love that you can remove it with a tissue, and it moisturizes a little unlike some tints that showcases all your lip cracks.

I love this brand so much that I even took a family photo of all the Evas products I have.

image

They are all from my previous memeboxes!

My favourite in this box is probably the Happy Bath Rose Essence Body Wash. This product has been in the market for the longest time! When I was in high school and hauling Gmarket (that was when? 4 years ago?), I remember getting 1+1 deals & bonus cleansers for cheap. I am reuniting with my long lost pal here hehe..

Look at how old this advert is. Many beauty bloggers/Gmarket addicts were also hauling the Happy Bath like nobody’s business.

image

image

It smells and feels fantastic. I will incorporate this soon to my shower collection after I am done with my Cosrx Tea Tree soap (from Memebox Oil & Trouble) and Oriental Jin Plu Scrub (Memebox Hair & Body).

The last product is a sample pack (5 foils) of Hope Girl Magic Skin Primer. I don’t use primers alot but I am willing to try this out sometime as it says to ‘even out lines and cover pores’. I hope it doesn’t clog my pores instead.

The scentbox total up to $44 in value although I got it for $30 as a 2+1 bundle on Memebox. Scentboxes are sold out on Memebox but you can always check back as they might restock or introduce new ones any time.

You may also use the following promo codes;

 588KKYR9G4 – $5 discount on any memebox order. (Valid date : July 1st ~ end of July, limit to one time per customer.)
EJPWG5 – $5 off any pruchase. Valid until the end of July.

SD Hair Steam Hair Pack (7 Days Premium Edition)- review

image

Remember that Hair & Body Memebox the memepeople sent me weeks back (unboxed here)?
I finally found the perfect time to try out the SD Hair Steam 7 Day Hair Pack.

image

The SD Hair Steam 7 Day Hair Pack was revealed on Memebox’s FB fanpage and got a pretty good buzz. Every memefan was curious on how this would work.

Well, it was not as dramatic as the picture shows. There were no steam coming out of my scalp, thank goodness.

photo of the result after usage. (too dramatic imho)

My hair was not super dry or anything, but because of the shift of seasons, it was a little frizzy.
I was excited to see if the results were as dramatic!

I got this description of the product on the net;

The mask is formed with concentrated essence and it is self heating upon application onto hair.  It will help your hair to be soft, smooth and healthy.   The pack will also repair the hair damaged due to frequent coloring, hair perm or stress.  Just one time use will improve the condition of your hair but we highly recommend apply 4 times a month for the best result.

image image

The instructions were in Korean so I had to refer to the infocard included in the Memebox for more details.

image image

image

So in case that isn’t detailed enough, I found some pictures to aid the process;

hair

I was surprised at how oversized the cap was until I realized it was just enough to cover my long locks.

image

And it is purple in print! (found a lavender cloth to match). Coincidently my current hair color is deep purple from my previous mahagony.

image

I left it for about 15 minutes to maximize it’s effect, and massaged my scalp from time to time while I watched more beauty videos on youtube.

After rinsing with warm water, I towel dry as usual and let it dry naturally.

My hair felt soft and it does not make my scalp oily. I love that it doesn’t react like most conditioners that flatten my hair with over-moisturizing ingredients. My hair remained fab and washed for the next day.

I think I might love to try another similar product. My next would be the Ryo Hair Loss from Memebox #12. I can’t wait!

Memebox Hair & Body retails for $23 + $6.99 (shipping). The #1 and #2 are currently sold out but you may purchase the Hair & Body #3 box – it has been hashtag-ged with #Jjimjibang (sauna) so I would recommend this to all spa lovers and those who wants to try out exfoliating products!

You may also use the following promo codes;

 588KKYR9G4 – $5 discount on any memebox order. (Valid date : July 1st ~ end of July, limit to one time per customer.)
EJPWG5 – $5 off any pruchase. Valid until the end of July.
